Artist Statement

My art is about freedom. My process is simple and involves painting with rakes, brushes, and even pouring paint over canvasses and allowing the hills and valleys of my yard to do some of the work for me. I use primarily acrylic and watercolor paint, mostly because they dry quickly and when I am inspired I am relentlessly driven to create what is inside my head in the world.

Painting allows me to touch a freedom that I rarely experience in daily life otherwise. It is a total release and I hope that some of that feeling is captured in my work and felt by the viewer. There is no secret meaning to my work, it is simply what you see, color and line on canvas. I am influenced by color field painting and seek to avoid representation, although for the sake of titling I ascribe meaning to the shapes and colors.
